MENSTRUAL IRREGULARITIES

The female reproductive process is a complex and highly co-ordinated interaction of many components. Any disruption in events like Hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, excessive mental and physical stress and unwanted medication can lead to menstrual abnormalities and reproductive failure.

Any symptoms of irregular menstrual cycle should never be avoided as ignoring them can turn into chronic persistent health problems in future.

Treating the symptoms with Hormonal pills, pain killers and various procedures like D&C can be harmful to the body in long term.

THE MOST COMMON MENSTRUAL IRREGULARITIES ARE:

  • Amenorrhoea – complete absence or cessation of menstrual bleeding
  • Oligomenorrhoea – reduction in the frequency of cycles with menstrual intervals varying between 6 weeks and 6 months.
  • Hypomenorrhoea – regular cyclical scanty bleeding
  • Menorrhagia – prolonged or heavy cyclical menstruation.
  • Metrorrhagia – acyclical intermenstrual bleeding.

AYURVEDIC TREATMENT FOR MENSTRUAl PROBLEMS

Ayurveda considers regular and normal menstrual cycles as an important indication of female health.  Ayurveda refers menstruation as Rajasrava, which translates to ‘flow of Raja’,where raja represent blood.

Ayurveda divides the entire monthly cycle into three distinct phases – Ritu Kala , Ritu Vyateeta Kala and Rajasrava Kala. Medicines and therapies differ with these stages.

Obstruction of natural urges, excess physical strain, sleeplessness, excess use of dry, sweet, sour ,spicy and salty food items, day sleep, excess emotional stress etc.. causes imbalance of doshas mainly vatha dosha, which is playing main role in all diseases related to pelvic area. This deranges arthava vaha srothas (the chanels that nourishes  uterus and related organs).
